About Kalama Tawya Centre
To find an ideal place to accommodate buddhists travelling to Myanmar to study and to practice Buddhism, our venerable monk Giac Nguyen (Toai Khanh) and a group of Buddhist volunteers went to Myanmar searching for a location that could satisfy many important factors including more tolerable climate and easier to travel to and from.
Recently, with the help to two Sayadaws, we found a suitable area in Pyin Oo Lwin (formerly Maymyo), next to national park Kandawgyi. Though this region is only 70km from Mandaly (which notoriously is always scorchingly hot) it has a much cooler climate due to its altitude of 1070 meters. Mandalay airport is 90 minutes away by car. Many major Burmese Zen schools (e.g. Mahasi, Pa Auk) have centres in Pyin Oo Lwin. A few top Vietnamese Buddhist temples are also nearby in Mandalay (Sitagu Buddhist University in Sagaing, Tipitaka school in Pale Yaung Shein).
The price of land in this precious location is quite high, way beyond realistic capacity of a group of volunteers. So we now have to turn to you and ask for your generous contribution to this project of great spiritual cause.
We hope that with everybody's spiritual strength and generosity, this project will soon reach its goal and travelling Buddhists to Myanar will have a place to stay, rest, meditate and concentrate on the study of the great Buddha's teaching.
